Treat your yard for grubs. One of their
favorite foods are grubs. Treat your
yard for grubs annually so you don't get insects
reproducing and nesting in plants and soil. Both
raccoons and opossum have great noses and will
smell any population of insects which is living
and breeding in or around your yard...

To keep racoons out of the garden, put electric fence, 3 wires is best. You can get a small electric fence battery operated charger to put on the fence, or one that is 110, either is fine. I found that putting the first wire 4 inches off the ground, the second one about 4 inches above that, and the 3rd one about 4 inches above that, will definitely work. Your ground level may not be too even, so you may have to use a little trial and error to get it just right. They will crawl under, over, or inbetween if the space is too wide any of the places.

What I have done is place a series of poles aroundmy garden. I then placed slinkies, yes slinkies, around the poles to prevent the racoons from climbing them. Then I just attatched chicken wire to the inside of the poles. no more racoons.

Other than the correct answer The John Deere Guy gave you,
you could put out live traps.
Then call the city, parish, county or your father-in-law.
Skin them, sale the hides. Good money.
A good coon hunter leaves one foot on them and sales them to be eaten by those that choose to.

I have heard that anamals all hate loud rock music... If the garden is not too close try an old radio tuned to a hard rock station.

Keep a radio on a talk station playing out there. Raccoons hate the human voice.

Hurtful to you or the coons?
A rifle, a lawn chair and a flash light. or
T-posts, insulators, barbed wire fence and a fencer.
Either shoot the coons or build a fence w/the listed supplies.
