How do I tell if something is made of silver, such as an old teapot?

I like to know, with price of silver on the rise, if one sees a silver looking item for sale (such as at a garage sale) is it worth buying?

Usually you will be able to find a little stamp stating the purity of silver.

Remember the saying, all that sparks are not necessarily diamond! Silver is no exception,especially with many look-alikes available in the market!

Ya check for stamp. Also it will tarnish.
