Just had to re-write my official government applications at the Australian Post Office because I used a blue pen.

Because they will make multiple copies for various people, and some inks will not photocopy well enough for everyone to read your application! Most blue inks are probably fine, though. The post office is being conservative.

Blue ink doesnt reproduce in a copy machine nearly as well as black ink

Blue ink fades faster than black. They don't want your information disappearing on them! That's why doctors use black ink when taking notes on patients, police to write tickets, lawyers to sign documents, etc.

I don't know, as I know blue and black ink is formal use in application, and red is used to corrective

I remember that early copy machines could not read blue ink, so, if you wanted " not " to copy something, you just wrote it in blue.

Most documents these days are scanned by machines....maybe these machine also cannot read blue ink??

with latest technology .. they use scanning machines and computers to copy applications ... the machines photo copy better if something is written in black ink . that's why they ask us to write in black in ball point pen ...

Cause it need to be copied , scaned , faxed and black ink helps in taking the print .

black ink shows up better for copies and shows through better when filling out forms with mutiple copies and visually is easier toi read by all people.

its because black ink is more readable....and its more "official" looking. Usually its blue or black but i always read to see if they want anything certain.

Black has become the unofficial standard for all government related documents. Its professional, easy to read, and it's the coolest color in the world!!!
