Our atmosphere is held in place by Earth's gravity. It's thought that Mars probably had a much denser atmosphere at one time, but because of its much lower gravity that atmosphere has no mostly drifted off into the vacuum of space.

Gravity holds it in place, the ozone layer and the magnetic field protects it and the Monn keeps everything the way it is. If the Moon were to leave its orbit for some reason perhaps our atmosphere would be stripped away, because of far more severe seasons. As long as the Moon is out there we should be OK.
