The best story is definitely The Gold Bug ... I really love that story and its less well known.
If you are a Poe fan then check out Matthew Pearl's new book The Poe Shadow. Its fiction based on Poe's mysterious death- really well researched and a great homage to the man himself. Its in hardback at the moment but will be in paperback soon.

My favorite Poe story is Murder in the Rue Morgue. My favorite poems are Annabelle Lee and The Bells. I absolutely love the phrase tin tin abulation. After these three any of his works are enjoyable. Poe was a master story teller.

Annabell Lee because it takes place in Charleston, SC my home away from home. Or Tale Tell Heart because it's a great story of how a man's guilt drives him insane

It's hard to choose, but if I must...
"The Black Cat" by Edger Allan Poe is an excellent story. It feeds off peoples long held superstition of black cats..

The Masque of the Red Death...his use of color is amazing. The whole story is an allegory. I love that he uses minimal dialog and, instead, uses prose to tell the story. It is a great one!

The Pre-Mature Burial scared me to death when I was in middle school. Just the very idea was terrifying, and I wish I hadn't read the story, although I still have that book.

A Descent into the Maelstrom.
I am not sure why it's my favorite. Maybe it's because I feel that no one else has written anything this weird with so much conviction since.
