B&W make the best ones I have heard. 800D series I believe.
But if you were wanting the best deal I would go with Magnepan the clarity is awesome but you have to have some kind sub that can handle the low end.

The best speakers differ for everyone. Your best might not coincide with what I consider the best. All have a set of compromises that may or may not agree with your values (price, size, sensitivity, looks, sound, bass, power handling, etc.).
There are many very good speaker manufacturers. I've heard and owned some very good ones. In my years as a hobbyist, Acoustat, Magnepan, Apogee, Vandersteen, Spendor, Wilson Audio, NEAR, Linaeum (before Radio Shack bought their tweeter), Aria 5 Raven (a kit speaker sold by Zalytron.com that my brother owns, a giant killer that bests even speakers costing >$30,000; costs $1200), and many more.
Start with these companies' products and listen for yourself. Trust your ears because the salesman's tastes will differ from yours.
