Some spyware take you to porn sites, or displays it on your computer, but as far as I know, nothing puts it in the history file without displaying it.

The answer would be that someone in your family is looking at pornography. It wont list content from a site that hasn't been visited in the cache or history. You can also try looking in the Temporary Internet Files. That way if you are using a Windows XP based computer with user names you can find out who is looking at the porn.
To find the Temporary Internet Files
My Computer > C: drive (or hard drive) > documents and settings > select user name.
Next you will have to show the hidden file folders so:
In the menu bar - Tools > Folder Options > View > Hidden Files and Folders > select show and then select ok.
To find the temporary internet files
Now that you have shown the hidden files you can click Local Settings and then click Temporary Internet Files, I would display Thumbnails to see what images are what. If no porn is found there try a different user.

If there were 1 or 2 websites to pornography in your internet history folder, then it could be an accident. The internet is a crazy place, afterall, and people can get lost.
However, it is not possible for a website to be recorded into your internet history without someone voluntarily visiting that site.

I'm sorry to say but someone used the computer to visit porn sites. Spyware usually changes the homepage or the default search page but I have never heard about adware or spyware adding sites to the history. In order to verify that someone visited porn sites, check the cookies stored on your web browsers. If someone visited porn sites, there should be a slew of cookies with names like "porn," "sex tracker," and/or "erotica." If you are using Internet Explorer, you view the cookies go to Tools > Internet Options > "General" tab > click [Settings] > click [view files]. Scroll through the list and look for "lewd" cookies.
If you confirm someone is using the computer to visit porn sites, there are ways to block such sites. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet options > click the [Content] tab > under Content Advisor click [Enable] > click on the [Rating] tab > highlight the desired category > move the slider to set the level of blocking > click [Apply] > [OK] > [OK]

No they cannot just appear in the history. You have a pervert in the family who is too stupid to turn the history feature off.
