Perhaps you should go with the pads, so you won't have this problem. If you want to use tampons, try the ones that have the plastic applicator which helps them slide in easier.
Here's what one website recommends:
If you are standing up, the vagina angles back and up, toward the middle of your back, not straight up. If the tampon does not follow this angle, it will hit the vaginal walls. Also, you may be using a tampon that is just too big for you -- try the "teen" or slender tampons.

u might hav bought a size that's too big for u, beginners usually start off with the smallest size, if u r sure that u bought the right size, here's a tip that u can try, when u r inserting a tampon, dont do it straight up, do it in some sort of an angle, to the front/back of your body(cant remember) and just be relax

The insert provided with the tampons gives you different options on how to position yourself for insertion. When I first began using them almost 17 years ago (sad reality lol) I found that lying on my back was the most comfortable position. As years have passed it has became easier to insert. If you try different positions and are sure you are relaxed and still have pain talk to a doctor or opt for pads.

Do what the instructions in the box says, RELAX! It could be you're using one that's too large for your...size. Try using a smaller tampon, or a 'slimfit' if you're already using a small one.

Every once in a while, I get a pain when using tampons, so I just switch to pads for a while. No biggie.

Sorry to here of your troubles w/your tampon. They're really not for everyone. They do take practice.Be sure to relax & don't rush.Maybe you need to get the slender ones.Maybe it's too dry there, that'll make it hurt too.If you're a virgin it may make it difficult.Read over the instructions the tampons came with.Try getting plastic applicaters as they are smoother & slide in easily.Good Luck.Hope I've helped some?!

I had the same problem when I was younger. Only wore a tampon for swimming and outfits that might show a pad and removed it promptly when not needed. Check with your GYN to make sure everything is fine. If it is, maybe your just sensitive.

This might sound gross, but when you are first starting to use tampons, use two of your fingers to spread out your vagina and then you can see what you are working with better. Make sure you wash your hands afterwards.

There is an applicator, usually. It goes into your vagina. You might need a bit of lubrication the first time to help get it started. In no time, you'll be fine and do this without thinking.

It prolly hurts because you tense up and get nervous. it would be nearly impossible to put it in the wrong place. Just try to relax or you can just stick to pads.
