My 2-year old daughter is itching in her private area? I think she may have an infection. Is it possible for a baby to have a yeast infection or something? What could be wrong and what can I give ger to sooth her until I can get her to the doctor's?

She probably just noticed that she has something there and kids tend to touch when they notice new things. It's a phase, don't worry too much. It could even be that she just has an itch. Thats perfectly normal. If she had a yeast infection, you'd know because she would scream everytime she peed. Call the doctor and ask but if she has no symptoms, then it may just be the natural process of scratching an itch. if it is an infection, let her run around with no bottoms on, let her soak in the tub, let her eat yogurt. Doing those things may clear it up themselves.

You should not give your child anything until you see a doctor. It is normal for children this age to 'discover' thier private areas. A lot of times children this age will itch, grab or rub this area when they need to go to the bathroom.

Go to the doctor to rule out a yeast infection, which children can get, but it may be time for potty training.

If your daughter does have a yeast infection it's no big deal the doctor will precribe nystatin (which is totally safe) and you apply it 3-4 times aday and it starts to go away pretty quickly. Even boys can get yeast infections at that age. It's totally ok don't worry. My doctor also told me to stay away from most childrens bubble bath that the ingredients in them can cause irritation.

YEs, small children can get yeast infections. Check out the area. If there is discharge, eeew, then yep, she's got one. I can't tell you what to do for it (a cool bath maybe, external itch remedy like vagisil, nothing internal 'til you speak to the doc), but you know to get her to the doc. My daughter sometimes itched if she hadn't wiped well enough and a cool bath would solve the problem. I could tell that was the problem becaue the area looked a bit reddish and irritated. Either way, you're going to have to look. Good luck. Poor baby!!

My daughter is 2 and she has had two yeast infections since 8 months of age. Both were caused by taking antibiotics for an unrelated illness and both were cleared up with a regular anti-fungal cream that you would use yourself. Buy the Monistat 7 day (or generic version) and apply to labia every time you change her diaper for about a week - it clears up fine.

Yes, it is possible that she could have a yeast infection. But she also may just be exploring. When in doubt, just take her in. You probably don't want to apply any creams or anything without asking a doctor first. Just keep the area clean, try not to irritate it.

It's common for little baby girls to have yeast infection, you can buy mild yeast treatment cream from pharmacy to apply on the affected area after washing it. I forgot what the cream was called, but it's the one you can use on nipples when there's a yeast infection on nipples when breast feeding, because it's mild yet effective, ask the pharmacist, they should be able to help you.

Yes, baby girls can get yeast infections. My daughter had one when she was about a year old. You can try diaper rash creams, but to be safe, call her doctor's office, there should be an emergency answering service and a registered nurse will call you back and tell you how to proceed.

She maybe is just curious down there and is experimenting different touches, but even newborns can get pretty bad yeast infections. A little niastatin wouldnt hurt her if she didnt have one until you get to the doctor to make sure.

Is it red? Both my girls have had similar and I was told to put them in a warm bath with just baking soda.

You can put Vagisil on her since she is 2. Check the label, but I am pretty sure it's ok for 2 years and over. It will relieve some of the itching.

Another thing I did, (though this is more of a long run help), is to only use perfume free/dye free detergent on her underwear.
