The term "cash flow" is used to mean slightly different things in different situations.

For example, in the profit/loss statement of a publically traded company it has a very specific meaning. In terms of personal finance, it has a more generic meaning.

In each case, cash flow refers to the money generated for running your house or the business.

For most of us, our cash flow is approximately our take home pay. That is the money that is flowing in and out. Available for operations, for investment for whatever.

You may have a huge debt, or perhaps huge savings, but that is not part of the cash flow. Think "flow" and you will be close.

Sometimes the cash flow issue is very short term. A millionaire with many investments that pay at odd intervals may have a month where no money is coming in and he still has bills to pay. This can be called a cash flow problem rather than a lack of money problem. He doesn't want to sell his investments and he will soon have enough but right then, cash flow problem. A business can be similarly squeezed even when it is doing well overall.

Cash flow means where the money comes from, and where it goes.

Income. Expenditures. Expenses. Waste. Interest. Dividends.

All the money that "flows" in, and how it does so, and all the money that "flows" out, and how it does so.

How fast does it come in, how long does it sit (unproductive!) and how fast does it go out?

Positive cash flow is enough money coming in, fast enough to cover expenses, even unforeseen ones.

Negative cash flow is more expenditures and expenses than money coming in.

during your daily life, there will be money coming in and out right ?? money you spent, money you get, money you save, money you invested in something.. now those activities are what you call cash flow... the activities of your money... so if your money was quietly staying in your piggy bank, it means that you have a very pasif cash flow.. but if you spent it, and invest it, and get it back, and bla bla bla.. it means that you have a very active cash flow..
