Pop psychology is an art. The field of psychology as studied by professionals is mostly a science, since it is based on research and the scientific method.

It is both an art and a science.
An art for it is used in education. It is inclined with creativity and the art of teachin gpsychology is well... an art.
As a science for it is used in medicine and diagnosis for mental illnesses.
Trust me, I have Bachelor of Science in Psychology major in Neiropsychology as a course.

Psychology is a social science, although it's very interesting that the college I attended classified it under an art degree.

I would say science, beacuse Science in the broadest sense refers to any knowledge or trained skill, especially (but not exclusively) when this is attained by verifiable means.[1] The word science also describes any systematic field of study or the knowledge gained from such study. In a more restricted sense, science refers to a system of acquiring knowledge based on empiricism, experimentation, and methodological naturalism, as well as to the organized body of knowledge humans have gained by such research.
