Slovakia - They speak Slovak - NOT RUSSIAN. If you speak Russian or German, prepare for a whoopen. I was over there in 98 and I spoke English with the children, Russian with the Parents and I was ousted by the grandparents for speaking English and Russian.

Because of Russia's invasion of that region in the early 80's, they still hate the Russian government.

They hate the Germans because of WWII and the Nazi's invading their country.

Speak Slovak what ever you do.

You must be trying to decide where to go next? I have always found that most places I've traveled too people respond well to one basic gesture. If you pick even just one phrase, sentence or even sometimes just a couple of words, locals open their humanity towards you. In fact, in many places there are people who know some English. They will usually stop you as your few words are still coming out of your mouth. This gesture of learning just a few words is a courtesy that shows respect to the culture your visiting.

For me, if I had to pick the easiest experience I had in a non-English speaking country it was Spain. I was treated extremely well and made to feel welcome in many places throughout the country. For the most difficult country, luckily I don't think I found it. Underneath it all, everyone is the same. Be sincerely interested in every place you travel and the local residents anywhere will proudly show you it's best.

Italy is one of the easiest. I have found that most Italians speak English well enough to get by, and if there is a problem, I have had another person step in to help and translate.

From Naples and to the north, most everyone speaks English. When you get south of Naples, and in Sicily, there may be more instances where you will need some help, but in most all cases, the people are friendly, accommodating, helpful and sincere.

If you stay in the "touristy" areas of Japan, France and Hong Kong, it is considered unprofessional for businesses to not have at least 1 person who does not speak English. The challenge comes when you go into small boutique type shops where they don't speak any English.

Before you take off for any foreign country, I would suggest that you know at least the basics because if it looks like you're at least trying to make an effort and not just expect them to adapt to you, they are more inclined to help you. I found that most people in Europe speak several languages including English, but not all are inclined to share that with you.

Philippines is the easiest to travel. it has a nice view and scenery that will suite you needs. travelling there is like going to the different country because of its nice climate and different tourist spots.

The most difficult is china, because of its nativeness and also it is a big place to visit.

Iraq, Pakistan. If you are not a local or do not speak the language fluently, you are in BIG TROUBLE with the locals.
