No, except in the (sort of incorrect) phrase "better than the best."
Grammatically, 'better' is a comparative, indicating a higher degree than something being compared to. For example, my "B" on the test was better than your "C." Best is a superlative, meaning the highest degree of something - Susan's "A" was the best grade; no one did better than she did.
Surely you see that B was better, A was best. Without some kind of twisted weird argument, you can't argue that the better grade was better than the best.
A comparative is an intermediate degree of quality, a superlative is the highest degree of quality.

Actually when you think of it, you are saying that being better than best is better but if it is best there is no way of being better. That is like saying she is the best flute player I have every seen but you are better than her. But that wouldnt be correct, the person shouldve said you are better than her on the flute so you are the best. Or something along that line. Hope I helped. I know where you are coming from but when you think of it , it isnt correct like how can you be larger than humongous?

It all depends on you, and how you look at things, you might be content, but other poeple what BETTER than BEST. In this world that's a never endless process, so having BETTER than BEST would always be highly temporary.

you can't be better than the best because that new meaning would replace the old meaning of best.
there is only one best, and nothing is better.

Everything is in relation to good.
Good-its average.
Better-is more than average.
Best-highest above average.
This works with large too--everything is in relation to Large.
Small-what makes it small (its smaller than large)
Medium-in the middle
Large-the big one
XLarge-bigger than large
XX Large-much bigger than large
XXX Large-humongous
