I've recently gone back to school (junior college for now, until I get my grades up), and I'm writing for the school paper (they've actually made me the editor starting in the fall).

I'm transferring to a four year school in about a year. After school, what is the best way to go about getting a good job in journalism (print journalism, preferrably.)?

i did a research paper on this last year and i found out that freelance is a good way to start a career in journalism...you can send you columns to local newspapers and magazines....Readers Digests always takes articles from people.i got this book called writers market 06 it gives you a list of names and addresses of the companys who accept freelance writers and how much of there newspaper/mag is made of freelance writers.....its a great source to learn more about it....

You don't need to finish Journalism school to do what a friend of mine did. He saw a need in the local paper for music reviews and started writing them and sending them in. He got his column accepted and to this day (15 years or more later) he still writes them. He also now does 2 other weekly columns: one for religion and another for his every day life.

So continue your schooling but also find something to write about free-lance and submit them to your local paper(s).
