Skin cancer doesn't come from the sun...otherwise everyone would have it...studies have proven that most people with skin cancer used some type of sunblock(man-made chemicals). The sun is good for our body(vitamin D),however,we don't need to be out in the sun all day to get it(vita-D)...a couple of minutes here & there is all we really need.Polynesians & Africans/some Asians have the hardest skulls/bones amongst we humans-I believe that has something to do with the sun-they're in it most of the time in their countries-take a look at their skin color...yet,we don't hear much of skin cancer when relating to these people...
for the most part, people of light skin color want something different...alot of caucasians want/like the tan color-makes them feel good, and on some-it looks good...until too much exposure turns the skin leathery & wrinkled fast!!!
People will risk it and take the consequences...if they hear one positive thing about it-they'll throw out all the negative things they've heard about it because down deep inside they want it-human nature...

Well not only do people with very fair complexions get skin cancer, but it is believed that most anyone who will expose themselves in sun light for long periods of time could get melanoma a deadly type of skin cancer, but fortunately there are quite a number of skin lotions, and cremes for who would like to tan for the summer, and by the way, people will tan in the sun anyway whether they want a tan or not, so why not just get nicely tanned all over evenly? check the Dr. or pharmacist for protective sun screens iswhat we all are being told to do, ozone layers thin now.

I have tanned in the past and sometimes do go to get a little less white, so when I go on vacation I don't turn red as a beet...when I go in the water. Also you skin does need to get some sunlight if you don't, than you can get little white bumps on your skin. Too much of anything is harmful. There is always a risk to most things in life, unless you want to live in a closet all the time and do nothing.

I am considered to be VERY pale and I always wear sunscreen even if I am not even going to be out in the sun for long. I know how dangerous it is for me to go out in the sun unprotected. If I am going to the beach or pool I wear SPF 75 or up. I have been burned badly once before and I know that put me at enough risk. I really don't want to be tan. I think that being pale is very beautiful. My boyfriend is hispanic and he would get VERY upset if I got even the slightest tan. His family thinks he is stupid but he has his reasons.I don't know why so many people risk so much just to be tan. If they want to be tan so badly they should use the tan in a bottle lotions. Society has such a stupid influence on things.

Because they're too damn dumb to use a good SUNLESS tanning lotion. Yes, there is such a thing, and it doesn't cause cancer or wrinkles or leathery skin! I know, I use it all the time. Not to mention...why would anyone want to waste their time just laying around on the ground in the sun? I could think of way better things to do.

Same reason why smokers keep smoking when they know that they will develop lung cancer. Same reason why people pierce their body in the most bizzare ways. Because they would rather have something they want right now and definitely get what they want and take the risk of losing something else later.

What they really want is hot sun (vitamin D).Getting skin cancer is coincident. I've heard alot but have never come across anyone with skin cancer in 53 years of my life.

They have actually proven now that tanning is addicting like a drug! It releases happy indorfins in your brain. So some people start off just wanting alittle sun, but end up burning themselves day after day.

So we can feel like we look healthier. Also because it does make some folks feel better. As for the cancer part, we are all going to die some day why not be happy before we do so.

Because someone started the rumor that tanned skin would indicate that you were of the wealthy & healthy class.
