It's called image streaming, apparently. To image stream, close your eyes and wait till you see something in your mind. At the beginning you may notice that you can't see anything but black, normal. Practice it with eyes closed, after a while some thing ambiguous usually appears, maye be a rock, horse, tree, person or whatever(literally). Now the other part of the technique is its description. Describe in detail what you see trying to include all of your 5 sences. More than one observation in each sence is desireable, describe in DETAIL whatever you see, as if you were describing this normal hallucination to another so that they would be able to see exactly what you see, you could put them there with such a description; the tree is green at the top, the leaves appear dark green the moonlight accenting the top egdes of them, the sky is black no stars, its on a hill made of just dirt and i cannot see the bottom of it, it just fades to black, the night air smells like the fall when the dead leaves are wet from dew, it feels cold my skin is all bumpy,it tastes like there is water in the air, also i can smell the soil around me, its very quiet, eriely quiet, theres a moon up to the left over the tree and i swear i can feel it on my face,it tastes like there is dust in the air soil dust, the trunk is almost black but i can make out the detail of the bark its rough texture,etc...When this image streaming is done with a partner, tape recorder, pen paper, it is supposed to increase intellect, creativity and the such. This feedback loop to something else is the point to keep in mind , without the feedback loop you will not really be able to increase anything. Now, the part of getting to sleep, when you go to bed , comfortable and somewhat relaxed close your eyes and wait for an image to pop up in your minds eye or the black area when you close your eyes. When something anything pops up, look at it , notice it, and just recognize that you see it. Image streaming without the feedback loop ie; describing it to yourself quietly in detail some way makes you feel tired like a drug, i don't know how it works(something about to much sensory input and no vent for it) creates the tiredness . It does work, do it for one minute and if done accuratly you will feel the effects, if not do it longer. The so called insomniac's special. Good Luck No Joke.

I was reading about this just today. Another suggestion was that if you have been in bed 30 minutes and are not sleepy, get up and walk around, but nothing interactive such as tv or computer. This somehow resets your body into going to sleep. Also, a cool room and white noise help. I have restless leg syndrome so about the only thing that helps me is to take a hot shower and allow my body to cool down quickly before I go back to bed. Sometimes even that doesn't help.

I suffered from insomnia for 2 years, I was miserable. A friend introduced me to a functional fruit juice and within 2 days I started sleeping through the night. I have not missed a nights sleep since! I was always a bit of a night-owl, but do find myself unable to stay awake so late anymore.
Every person I have shared this with has found relief from insomnia...and it's all natural with medical validation!
Best of luck
been there

Try drinking a cup of chamomile tea before you go to bed. Also, if you don't exercise, add some activity into your daily life. I find that I fall asleep faster and stay asleep if I'm active throughout the day.

Try 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger and 1 teaspoon of sugar mixed into 1 cup of hot milk. Works like a charm for me!

My Granny always gave us an aspirin and a glass of warm milk.
Amazingly it did work.
You can also go to a Health Food store.
Melitonin is a popular one. My husband used it for a while. He said it worked pretty good.
GNC stores have several herbal aids. You can also ask the clerk for help.

try some calming techniques or buy a meditation tape and play it. try breathing in very heavily and slowly about 10-15 times. slowly feel your body relax and think about each muscle, moving from toe up through mid section through head and allow your body to drift into a comfortable position. remain breathing deep and slowly. this is a natural way to slow your body down and keep reminding yourself to drift more and more away and feel the comfort flow through your body.
