I think its important to learn about the history of different cultures, however, its unfortunate that different communities feel the need to label it as "black history" or "Hispanic History" etc... This, in my opinion, causes more of a problem, the labeling. It should all be taught, all year round as simply history. Maybe in the 60's and 70's there was a need for such labeling, but its gone on too long, we're integrated, its time to move on. Now, to be honest, there is a double standard you'll never see Caucasian TV or Caucasian history month or the Caucasian college fund etc... and thats because it would immediately be labeled as racist. Now be serious, don't you think its unfair that race plays a factor when it comes to college entraces? Don't you think that the quota system is just reverse racism? Again, there was a time for it, and now that time is long since gone. None of this upsets me, I really don't care, I think I'm just pointing out the obvious here. Now there are a few things that do make me wonder, first, there are quite a bit of African Americans who like to portray the "thug life" or "gangsta life", these people act like morons in public and, I believe are a discredit to their culture. I wonder what Dr. King would say if he saw those people? Would he be proud? Now, I do want to say that I don't judge a whole culture based on those few, however, it is understandable why someone might cross the street to avoid those individuals when they see them. Its also understandable why someone might have preconcieved ideas about someone who walks around with pants that hang below their behinds with their underwear showing and a tee shirt that hangs to their knees. Also I know its not just African Americans that do this, there are plenty of white's that act just the same, and I think that they're even more rediculous and an even greater blemish.

We are always told that skin color doesn't matter and that everybody is the same but then certain groups get their own history month, awards shows, tv shows, etc. If everybody is the same then why are some getting something special? Also, I have found that during black history month many blacks are riled up and angry about stuff. They seem to be hypersensitive. This makes everybody else uncomfortable. A big reason too is that there can't be a Euopean group on high school campuses without those who ask for it being vilified as racists even though they haven't done anything racist.
As far as history being white history the rest of the year I say bull. It's true that a big majority of history is European but that is because Europeans colonized this country. You can't change that. It isn't racist it is reality. There is plenty of history of other groups too. Sometimes people have grown up being told that they are victims and then they go looking for confirmations of that belief.
Basically as long as groups keep segregating themselves and alienating everyone else there will not be big advances in race relations. Just don't tell me that you are the same as me except that you can have all of this other stuff that I would be racist for having.

I guess we're just getting tired of the whole black/white thing. We are all just people. Black people are no more special than white people, or vise versa. There shouldn't be a "black history" or a "white history", but just plain "history". Neither race is any more special than the other. The idea of "black history month" does nothing but promote hatred between the races, and it's just getting O-L-D. Get over yourself, whether you are black or white, you aren't any better than anyone else.

i think that if there was a white history month it would be the other way around wouldnt it? its funny with things that way.. like the movie.. what was it called? guess who... with bernie mac and ashton kutcher, when the black girl brings home the white guy. and in one part the girl cousin or sister looks at ashton and goes ohhh are we being audited? now imagine the out cry if the roles were reversed in that movie!

when have you seen a special white history month?
You won't. because we don't sulk over our past.
I'm sorry but probably one of the reason whites have a problem with it, we are being punished for what your ancestors and our ancestors did.
