Depending Upon the Age of the child it could be a great place - my daughter is 12 yrs and we love the out doors. Some great things to do are listed below.

Can't-Miss Adventures

It's all about perspective. How many different ways are there to view those famous red rocks? From land or air - and depending on your level of adventurousness - choices abound.

Jeep Tours: They cover a lot of ground and know where to find the most beautiful sights amongst the red rocks. Each company has its own personality and focus, be it cowboy kitsch or off-road adventure.

1. Pink Jeep Tours
(800) 8SEDONA or (928) 282-5000
www.pinkjeep.com
Fast approaching its half-century anniversary, Pink Jeep Tours are the original Sedona off-road tours. Tours are two to four hours and take clients to Broken Arrow, Ancient Ruin and Diamondback Gulch.

2. A Day in the West
(800) 973-3662
www.adayinthewest.com
Why should out-of-state visitors be the only ones who get to revel in some Old West role play? One option combines a jeep tour with horseback riding and a cowboy cookout.

3. Safari Jeep Tours
(928) 282-3012
www.safarijeeptours.com
Arizona Safari Jeep Tours offer a range of choices, from smooth to rugged. Safari specializes in wildlife-viewing expeditions.

4. Powerchute Sedona
928-300-8119 or 800-973-3662
www.powerchutesedona.com
It looks like a go-cart attached to a parachute, but for those who aren't faint of heart, a "powerchute" might be the best way to see Red Rock Country.

Hot-Air Ballooning: A tranquil way to see Sedona from the sky, ballooning is a popular activity for area tourists. Daybreak and sunset flights are particularly beautiful, as well as more comfortable during the summer months.

1. Red Rock Balloon Adventures
(800) 258-3754
www.redrockballoons.com

2. Northern Light Balloon Expeditions
(800) 230-6222
www.northernlightballoon.com

Other fun stuff:

Sedona Trolley Tours
(928) 282-4211
www.sedonatrolley.com
OK, so maybe "adventure" is too strong a word, but plenty of visitors prefer to keep their feet - or at least all four tires - on the ground. A trolley tour is a convenient way to do it.

Arizona Helicopter Adventures
(800) 282-5141
www.arizonahelicopteradventures.com
Fearless? Have a need for speed? Then a chopper is the only way to see Sedona.

Trail Horse Adventures
(800) SADDLE-UP
www.trailhorseadventures.com
Guided horseback tours from one hour to all day.

Some points of interest are:

Slide Rock State Park — It would be easy to spend an entire day swimming and touring historic sites at this state park. Arrive early during the warm weather because the parking lot fills up fast. The park is named for Slide Rock, a natural water chute that kids of all ages love to glide down on hot days. Swimming and creek-side sunbathing also are popular.

Originally the area was known as the Pendley Homestead, for Frank L. Pendley, who homesteaded the area and planted apple trees beginning in 1912. He was the first to successfully irrigate land near Oak Creek, and his system is still used in the park. Although Slide Rock is the more popular attraction, visitors should take time to hike the flat, easy Pendley Homestead Trail to view apple orchards, the original Pendley home and barn and beautiful canyon views. Entry fee. No pets in swimming area. 6871 N. Highway 89A. (928) 282-3034.

Red Rock State Park — A great place to introduce kids to Sedona's red rock geological formations, Oak Creek and the area's wildlife. A five-mile network of trails loop through the red rock or the lush greenery of Oak Creek. Guided nature walks are available, or pick up a trail guide and create your own walk. Videos and slide shows at the visitors center. Entry fee. No pets. 4050 Red Rock Loop Road. (928) 282-6907.

Again it all depends upon the child and the families involved. Disney great but we truly love the outdoors from lost rivers to cave tours..... I think Arizona is great for all ages......

Happy Traveling - this is why we purchased an RV.............

There are a ton of things to do in Sedona. There is something for everyone in the family regardless of age. There is hiking, camping, resorts, horse back riding, hot air ballon rides, helicopter tours, off road jeep tours, walking tours, shopping, dining, star gazing, myth/folk lore, and many more. Not too far north of Sedona is Oak Creek Canyon. It is about 10/15 mins north. There you can find Slide Rock (a natural water park) Kyaking, rock hopping in the creek, and many fun water related activities. If you wanted you could even get to the Grand Canyon in about 2-3 hours from Sedona.

I am sure you will enjoy your stay, but please check the wild fire situation before you travel there as there have been a few up that way in the last couple of months. Winter is the best time to travel, and it is much cooler there than the rest of the Phoenix metro area.

Ok, Sedona is GORGEOUS! i lived there for over a year and it is spectacular. During the summer, in the evenings right before sunset and right after you can hear the coyotes howling and that in itself is awesome. Another get place to check otu is the Red Rocks. Theres an auditorium(i never got to see it in person but i have seen pics) and its all natural, never been formed by man and its got awesome acoustics. But due to the current wildfire situation, i would sugjest flagstaff. its pretty year round. The drive between sedona and flagstaff is awesome too so if u have time try that. the kids will get to see awesome animals and see lots of pretty trees and scenery. If u ever get the chance though. go up and visit Canyon D'Che(sp). Its liek a mini grand Canyon only its on the navajo reservation and its really a neat site. I have been twice. Other then that theres not much i can say. if u do go to the canyon. the kids wil get a chance to see real indian artifacts and meet real full blooded indians. Most of the natives are really nice people and r more then happy to tell stories to kids so that is a sugjestion. hoep u enjoy the area

Sedona is gorgeous, and can be fun for the whole family. It is a big 'spritual' destination, so there are lots of metaphysical shops, psychics and the such, but that is by no means all there is to Sedona and the surrounding area. There are jeep tours available (the famous Pink Jeep Tours run here but I think they're kind of pricey), and Slide Rock State Park is very near here (it's like a natural water slide in a river). Areas north of Sedona may be closed yet due to recent fire, so you wouldn't be able to take the beautiful drive on 89A from Sedona to the Grand Canyon, but there's plenty to do! It's probably not someplace I'd take the kids for the week, but a day or two there should keep them entertained.

stop being cheap and take them to disney land or seaworld or lego land... the last memory they need is of rocks.. you took them to the grand canyon. now do something fun.. live it up alittle before they become teens and hate you for no reason.

Need extra Information. one million. How a lot cash do you must spend? two. How ancient are your younger youngsters? three. What do they experience doing? Lacking that data, I believe Walt Disney World in Orlando is first-rate for youngsters.
