I don't think you can judge a company until you actually work there. Your overall work experience and personal relationships with your co-workers will shape how good you think a company is. The outward signs are all obvious.. good pay, benefits, vacation, etc...

What type of benefits do they have, are there advancement opportunities, is the job itself chalenging, review the culture, also the morale of the employees, is management accessible. These are some of the things you may want to look into.

Choosing the people you work for.
Time freedom.
