It is true, animals may seem to "learn" at a faster rate than our children do. Some animals can stand by themselves on the same day that they were born! But nature has made it so, to enable them to survive. Humans are more complicated, and have to develop more slowly. Where animals only have to develop their reflexes (& etc) necessary to survive, people have to develop even further. (We're able to do so, since we don't have predators lurking around the corner like they do!) The brain of a human infant is like a factory working in overdrive. What the baby experiences during this time is actually allowing the nerve pathways to be formed, which he/she will put to use while doing higher level thinking throughout life. Keep in mind, that most animals are going to walk on all fours-(the equivalent of crawling to us) but our offspring still has to stand up! I hope this helps a little, but overall I think we take so long because we have a lot of mental AND physical ground to cover!

Actually they don't. Animals live much shorter life span its all relative. An animal is mature by age one (most animals) some earlier than that. By mature I mean full grown. So a 1 year old dog is equal to an 18 year old human in many ways. So a 4 week old pup learning to walk isn't any different than a 18 month old human taking his first steps! They aren't learning faster they are learning based on their own life span

Because in the wild the children have to learn fast or they get eaten. Nothing preys on humans and hasn't really ever so we have evolved into a species that doesn't have to learn so fast which actually allows us to learn more and learn better.

Their lifespan is shorter than humans usually. Plus all they learn is survival skills most of which are instinctual. Humans have to learn things aside from how to find food and shelter. (i.e. school work)

Normally, if you notice, they don't live as long as humans, therefore making them grow up faster.
