Scientists at Texas Instruments looked at the drawing, built a transister from it; and from that! came all the electronics we have today. Before they used test tubes to make electrical machinery run. We have gone very far, in a very short time; technology wise...

The invention of agriculture. It allowed nomadic tribes to settle and spend less time hunting/foraging. We wouldn't have big cities or iPods if it weren't for the fact prehistoric people all of a sudden had a lot more free time.
