Honey, I do know what it feels like. It's a little alienating and lonely but you have to remember that it's just a job and you don't have to take it home with you. You also may be the door opener for many other black men and women in the company. Never show fear or discomfort. Walk in with your head high and know that you got the job because you were best suited for the position and not because of your race!

Its not as hard as you might think. I've been in an industry that in certain parts of the U.S., people of color are a rarity. I have had to prove myself 200% more than anyone. The best part of it is, I became a force to reckoned with. Doors that I normally had to break down are now opened for me with a smile... even though sometimes they are fake; but the respect is there. Don't worry about the ratio you make up in the office, focus on your productivity.

If you are African American and you got the job what race you are must have not played that big a difference, if you are well respected and your work is appreciated focus on character instead of skin color.

My pharmacy is small. We don't have any Blacks (except for me, and I hardly count, being only 1/16th), but I am the only Arab. We have a Mexican Indian; everyone else is justr plain white.

And you know what? No one there cares.
