There is alot of tension nowadays and alot of controversy over a words like this just grouped together, I only hear bad things on the news over in the Middle East and I know there are American Muslims as well as American Christians...my question I am not very religious or anything but are there any groups or people out there that want to get together or talk about differences and work together to try to enlighten each other? I will admit I have no experience with the Islam culture and all I see is the typical news stuff but are there people out there that want to talk or be friends and discuss this so I can enlighten myself? I just want to get to know some people who are different than myself. Thanks a bunch--JammieG.

wow thanks for the question.

I'm Muslim(alhamdilillah- all praises/thanks to Allah). And I was born and raised in America.

and Yes, your absolutely right. the media portrays nothing but hate against Islam. it's very bias.

Islam is such a beautiful religion. subhanallah. No other religion makes sense like Islam, and it's the only religion that doesnt reject any of the prophets.

Honestly, I love being a Muslim in America. because I get to show people what being Muslim is all about. I Wear the Hijab(head scarf), so people come up to me all the time and ask my questions, which I love. because I can finally clear up misconceptions.

When people talk to Practicing Muslims, it seems people are SHOCKED as to how normal we are, and just how extra nice we are to people. Islam teaches tolerance, not intolerance.

It's charity to smile at people. what other religion teaches that?

Basically Islam lays upon this foundation:

we as Muslims must believe:
1. that there is no object worthy of worship but Allah (God)
2. you believe in the angles
3. Heaven and hell
4. The Books that came before (the Old testament, Gospels, Quran)
5. you believe in the all the Prophets of God starting from Adam, including Moses, Jesus, Abraham, Noah, and Muhammad peace be upon all of them)
and finally
6. Divine decree.

feel free to email me! i'd love to talk to you more about Islam!

take care, and I ask Allah to guide you and us all to the strait path and the truth. ameen!

Jammie most people in America are open to discussion on just about any topic as you can tell by the number of people that ask questions and respond on this Forum of Yahoo
All of the 7 words you just mentioned above are simply that, words. Words do not hurt. What happens is when the words are read and interpreted and through interpretation are taken the wrong way or out of context that the problem begins.
People in America do not care what religion someone is. They may feel good if they are the same religion as that person or they may disagree with that persons beliefs but in America it is ok to agree to disagree. That is what makes America so wonderful. You are free to believe what ever you want and you are not punished or ridiculed for doing it.
I can't think of a religion that you can not find in America. there are people that have no religion also and that's fine too. In America you are free to believe what you want to believe and worship what you want to worship.
Most wars that are started have been over religion and religion is what is suppose to bring people together. And that is truly sad that religions people tolerate that type of behavior and promote it as well. Unfortunately it happens but I am grateful that it is only on a small scale. Most reasonable people see that killing people for what they believe in only makes those that are still alive believe even stronger in there faith and will fight with every last breath to defend it and avenge the ones that have fallen before them.
It is a vicious cycle but that is religion For thousands of years people have defended there beliefs never knowing until death if they were correct in those beliefs.
I think it would be ironic if when we died we all ended up in the same place. That would serve us all right.

I think it is really great that you are open to learn about others. Misinterpretation of Islam is what you probably see on TV. Islam is a religion not a culture. Each culture that embraces islam follows the religion in different ways. There are certain cultures who follow the religion who twist the religion into something that it isn't and that culture is what you see in the Media. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

So do you only wanna get to know Islamic people? Cuz im agnostic and I actually believe in alot of Islamic beliefs...they are getting a bad rap because of a small group of Fundamentalist Terrorists. It's a really sad state of affairs because if you think about it....Our Christian Leaders of America are the ones Killing them and innocent Iraqui Civilians....So I guess we can't be hypocrites cuz we are no better...Bombing for Peace is like F**king for Virginity..it makes no sence(Saw that one a Protest Sign) so anyways if u ever wanna email me feel free...I have alot of opinions...Rnwbman@yahoo.com
