certain items pull too much electricity for that to be feasable.

Things like your refridgerator, stove, dryer would run the batteries down in no time at all.

You would have to have a full room, stacked to the ceiling with batteries to run a 24 hour period. It would take a week to charge those batteries with the sun.

It is more feasable to use solar power on certain areas/ items in your house. But don't plan on it saving you a drastic amount of money.

as far as the feasibility of a solar setup, conservation of your electric is primary. utilities are primary generally with solar as secondary. to just supplement the service in a modern home. if this is a vacation home, it could be a consideration.

how about we go one better? A house whose main building component is spare tires and aluminum cans that is not only beautiful, but maintains at a constant 70 degrees, collects it's own water, disposes of waste water, generates it's own power, grows it's own food... AND is COMPLETELY off the grid, no utility poles, bills, etc....
