No, 200 years ago a lot of people couldn't read or write.
They knew how to pronounce the name. Some came from germany, swiss, latin, and was even unsure of its pronounceing it in English. So members of the same family wrote their name different. But all from the same family line.

No not all people spell they're name the same, it could be the same name btut dosen't always mean they're spelled the same like my name is Kasandra, now the normal way to spell it is....Cassandra, but i do not wish mine was spelled that way its good to be different, it makes you unique in every way, so no not everyone's name is spelled the same. :)
