False negatives (a test says you are not pregnant when you really are) are somewhat common. Many women just take them too early.

If you took it the day your period was due, and you got a neg. test result, you probably aren't pregnant. But if you took it before your period was due, you still may be pregnant!

The best test to take is First Response Early Result. It can detect hcg, the pregnancy hormone at 6.5 miu (which is really low) and is 69 % effective 4 days before a missed period.

If you take another test, and still get a negative, but miss a period and still believe you are pregnant, have a doctor give you a blood test!

Best of luck.

Home pregnancy tests detect the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, which the embryo begins to secret soon after implantation in the uterus. Still, even though the hormone is there, a home urine test might not be sensitive enough to pick it up yet. Generally, by the time your period is due, it has a high likelihood ( more than 90%) of being detected in a home test. A blood test, administered in a clinic, is more sensitive. I have heard of women getting positive urine tests 5 or more days before their period is due, but it doesn't usually go that way. If its still somewhat early, either try a blood test or wait it out.

It could be that you are just too early and therefore the test cannot detect any hcg hormones as of yet. If you have not missed a period yet and took a pregnancy test, then wait until you miss your period.... if you do not see your period after two weeks, it could be delayed because of stress and that is a fact to happen.... so, simply be patient... good luck..

It may just be too early for the test to pick up any hcg. I would suggest waiting a couple of days and try again.

You might try a pregnancy center or county health agency or Planned Parenthood, etc. to try one of their more precise tests. Of course, it is always good to see an OB/Gyn if you suspect anything might be wrong.
