I am going to do the Post coital test tomorrow. Yes, I know what that means, but how will i get the results? Does any one know, what i mean is ,is it going to be a positive or negative result, or will the doctor go into more detail, any one who knows, if you've been through this, tell me what the doctor told you. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

I had one done several years ago. For me, when you go into the doctor's office, you get into the "pap smear" position (stirrups...speculum and all). My RE then took a sample of cervical mucus and ran it over to a microscope. From there, he was able to see if there was any sperm present in the cervical mucus. I learned immediately that it was negative. He gave me a quick explanation and then sent me home.

Your doctor will go in detail with you as to what he found.

You should get your results right away as most fertility speicalists have their own labs right there. It is such a convenience!

I've been trough so many of them...it's crazy. After awhile it's like okay whatever and I have no shame in obgyn area any more, lol. At first I was all trying to be modest...by the end of it you just want answsers and the whole experience to end. Besides, I became great friends with the people there...

And now, I can undress in under 30 secs :))

(My r.e. was impatient, and if I wasn't ready I was last on the list)

What this test will do is allow your doctor to retrieve a small fluid sample from your cervix to view under a microscope. This will help the doctor to determine if the sperm are reaching and entering the cervix. It can also determine if there is an incompatibility problem between your body (cervical fluid) and your husband's sperm. Sometimes the woman's body fights off the sperm and sees them as invaders thus killing them. This is rare though. Your doc can also tell the quality of your cervical fluid, and if you are producing quality fluid allowing the sperm passage through the cervix. Write down questions before you test tomorrow and be sure to ask the doctor. I always write them down as I think of them. Best of luck!
