Actually, it's more involved then just the days that you are ovulating. An average man's sperm lives four days. This means that if you have sex four days before you ovulate, you can get pregnant. In rare occasions, some men have sperm that live seven days. Beware! You never can tell on which day you are going to ovulate on either, unless you are like clockwork.

Why are people so uneducated about menstrual cycles? You DO NOT ever "except in a VERY rare case ovulate on a period". Your period comes 14 DAYS after ovulation. Ovulation is the middle of a cycle in a 28 day cycle it's day 14, 29 day cycle day 15 exc! when the egg leaves the ovary. OVULATION is the only time a pregnancy can occur. The egg lives 25 to 36 hours after being released. A period comes after a egg was not fertilized 14 days after ovulation the body sheds the lining and starts to grow a fresh egg. In 14 days after the 1st day of the period the lining is ready to receive a fertilized egg the ovary releases the egg it lives a short while. if THE EGG MEETS NO SPERM the lining sheds again. It can happen that a egg may release during a period but, that is not normal and if that happens the lining is to thin in most cases to even allow the egg to implant so it comes out with your flow because the lining was shedding. Sperm can live 5 to 7 days MAX! A few women have got pregnant on a period. I have never had sex on a period i'm pregnant with #3!

Actually, when you are on your period you are least likely to get pregnant.

The "easiest" time to get pregnant is 2 wks before your period, that's when you ovulate.

Your usually most fertile about 2 weeks after your period (if your are on a 28 day cycle). Younger women often have irregular cycles so it could be sooner or later.

Best to take precaution if you aren't ready to become a parent.
