No, as long as the American public don't support the sport.
Looking at hundreds of comments here in Yahoo! Answers, most likely from Americans, you can tell the public there don't even like football (and that's 'soccer' to them). How could they win the World Cup if they despise the sport???
The whole country needs to be passionate about the sport, before they can become good at it. And they need to become good at it, before they can win at the International level.
Talking about passionate, look at the whole Latin America, Europe, and even Africa.

Honestly, I doubt the US will EVER win the World Cup. The European/South American teams are only going to get stronger with time.

it depends, if they change the rules to whoever eats the most big macs, starts the most wars on false pretences and neglects the black population of their country the most then yeah usa could quite easily win the world cup, however if the rules remain the same where one team needs to score more than the other by kicking the ball into the net then no, i am afraid you will never, ever win the world cup, especially if you dont take your best player, i was looking forward to watching the much hyped freddy adu but alas he didnt go

In the USA, we know that soccer is a women's sport. We have already won the World Cup.

nope, I don't think so. why? lots of reasons--- but the USA ever winning is a loooong shot! Flor put nicely: when the USA gets really good players from other countries, maybe. but there's also other factors, like spirit, passion, interest, ect.

No. Well, maybe when the whole country is overrun with immigrants from footballing nations, but not as they are. They don't have the support or the spirit for football; they can't play with the passion that distinguishes countries like Brazil or Argentina.

if they get a european coach and start players like dempsey and and eddie johnson get rid of the golden oldies like mcbride and teyna and bench idiots like donovan and arena seriously arena needs to be fired as soon as possible
but when all of the above criteria happen the usa will be a force to be reckoned with in world soccer

No because soccer/football isn't popular or really a liked sport in the US. Not nearly as much as it is in Europe, South America, and Africa. It's a shame, I wish it was....=(
