I'm old school and I see that a lot of music was good back then a lot of it is good now. The only difference in my opinion is the quantity of good music out back then compared to nowadays. Everybody was in harmony back then so you'd go get 5 records and the next week you'd be buying 5 more records. Old school people know what I'm talking about. I used to love Sister Sledge, Pointer Sisters, Nancy Wilson, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Miles Davis, Teddy Pendegrass, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and the Spinners, etc. all on records. Even White groups were good too, Eagles, Chicago, Journey, The Police, Bee Gees, Elton John, George Michael, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, etc. Old School people no matter what race we all were listening to good music like never before! I remember those days man! Brings back memories! Music is still good, but it's not that much in quality and depth as back then. Anybody feel the same?

I must agree with you on that being from "back in the day" myself. What I miss is the musical quality that bands used to have before technology made musicians an option. A drum machine cannot produce the warmth of a drummer and sampling doesn't impress me at all.

I work with a couple of guys in their mid-twenties who cannot believe bands play sets longer than 20 minutes. I expect a headliner to play at least an hour and a half! Even a local opening band has to have 30-45 minutes of music to perform. I'd rather see a musician sitting on a stool playing a guitar and singing than 20 dancers with a lip syncing front.

When MTV first began, it exposed me to a lot of music I may not have heard. Now I can't watch any of the MTV's because all the artists sound the same. It's seems record companies will only put money into something that's already been heard, seen and cashed out. I'm hearing that in all genres of music sadly.

In the past 10 years, I've only found a handful of new bands that excite me and inspire me to go out and get a ticket or CD. And they all give thanks to the classic sounds we listened to coming up for showing them how to express themselves musically.

I'm fortunate to live in a city that just held its annual 3 day music festival of local/regional music. Saturday night I heard a band called Jamnesia that tore up the stage with some hard driving funk with a little hip hop thrown in. They even had belly dancers on stage dancing to the beats. Probably the best blend of old and new with a twist ever. And they were having fun too. They'll probably never make the "big time" but with bands like that, the next level will reach some ears.

Obviously music from back in the day is better cuz everyone these days are always samplin the hell outta them! Old school is awesome. I love Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Teddy P, Otis Redding, and some 70's disco type music (like Sister Sledge and Diana Ross) too. Don't forget Peaches and Herb tho! "Reunited" was the bomb back in the day! lol

Absolutely. Music today is fragmented and everyone seems to be in a band or making a CD. The talent is there, but it has been too spread out. There is an ebb and flow to these things. I just wish they'd stop making terrible covers of great classics.

Yes. Music these days is too raunchy and filled with mediocre talent. It's sad, but I've got my oldies plus Mary J., Erykah Badu, and Alicia Keys!

I agree. Today, most of it is rap with a definate beat. To me, it is all noise and not much meaning. They use obscene language that detracts from the music. I definately enjoy the old music better than today's music.
