Everyone seems to think that the first black president will be a great leader. The sad truth is, black people are as dumb as white people. If our first black president botches his term, how will America react?

And why are people getting defensive? I didn't say anything bad about black people. It's just that being African-American doesn't carry with it some magic dust that makes you a good president.

I think they'll be just ok with it.

That person will just join the list of the other "loser" presidents that came before. :-)

The first black president would be under so much scrutiny that that person will be bound to "fail" in the eyes of some. Or perhaps, out of extreme guilt over the past mistreatment of blacks, the first black president could be given a free pass to do whatever they like. Either way, that black president will be given the unfair burden to be the representative for all black as if all blacks are the same and all have had the same experiences. Some people are just unable to separate the race and look at blacks as individuals.

I don't think people understood your question lol. I'm black and I don't find what you said offensive. I understand exactly what you are saying. The same question will apply if we have a female president. What if it ends up not being great, at best medicore or at worst terrible? Honestly, race to me isn't the major issue in selecting a President. Like, although I understand some of his points, I would never vote for Al Sharpton. And even though she is black and obviously female, I would never vote for Condoleeza Rice. I think if the first black President botches his/her term, some will treat him/her just like any other President and some will probably react far worse. More biased people would probably turn on the entire black race and blame the entire race for the state of the U.S. But I'm hoping for the best...I will vote for the man I think is best for the job. And I think there are some viable black candidates. We'll see what happens.

With all of the racist hurdles that a black politician would have to overcome to be the first black President, I can't imagine anyone getting elected unless they are pretty darn competent. I think that's why the general assumption is that the first black President will be a good leader.

It could still happen that the first black President will be a total loser, but I think the odds are against it if it happens any time in the next 30 years.

I understand your question and I see where you said Blacks are as dumb as whites; I guess some can't see it. You should have put it in caps, though some would still have ignored it.

Anyway, I think the first Black president has less of a chance to be a loser than any white candidate because those who would back him/her would know what would be at stake. Like many other times in our history, much more would be expected of this President than of others.

I understand your point...the same could be said about the first woman president...what if she didn't work out....
Well, it wouldn't be the first time there was a President in the White House that screwed some things up...nor would it be the last. I think both parties should have the chance first before we set them up for failure though.

Then you elect a better president the next time.

Is this a legitimate question, yeah, is it worded in a way that makes you sound suspect yes.

Your suggesting it will have a ripple effect, or are you suggesting that botching will be determined by the majority opinion or even the minority opinion.

I stand on this premise that the first Black president will have to be twice as intelligent twice as competent, twice as trusty worthy as the opponent he beats........

that would be the only way he would win in our society.
and that would guarantee a quality presidency...

it will be the same as having a white president who s*cks. No matter what their color, they will do something to make some group mad and then the racists will say it is because he is black. But most sane people will know that it's because the person is a politician so had no chance from the start. ;-)
Basically it doesn't matter what color they, some people are going to hate them no matter what... just cause they are in office.

I don't think America is ready for the black President.

He wouldn't be a loser if he wins the presidency.
If in such a case that happens, the whole population would be dumb enough to vote for an incompetent president, regardless of his color or gender.
