After 2 weeks you will be able to be moderately active. Do NOT resume normal activity, or even try, until after 6 weeks. Then you can begin to work back to full activity. The reason is this: if you do, you will tear the muscles in your abdomen and cause serious damage! Let the muscles heal FIRST.

My father had his appendix removed some years ago. There have been improvements in surgical techniques since then, so my information will be a bit dated.

6 weeks is a long time without activity, so you will want to work back into it. And if your body tells you NO, then pay attention. However, because you are used to being active, you should be able to return to your routines fairly quickly.

I had my appendixs taken out while I was in the Marines. They put me on bed rest for three days after that I was unable to return to my duty for 3 weeks. After that time was up I returned back to my full duties which included physical training (running, pull-ups but not sit ups). Anyway my body cooperated fairly well I only had to slow my pace for a few days before I got back into my normal routine. Take it easy for a few weeks then slowly go back to your normal routine but take frequent breaks if working out to make sure your body feels ok. You may also want to take a tylenol before exercising to help relieve some of the pain.
