It is a very profitable franchise. They seem to have hit a wall. What should they do next?

Let it die in peace. Everything has a natural ending point. I think they've reached theirs. I was probably 5 or so when the originals were on (and I know every episode by heart just about from re-runs), and I followed several of the spinoffs (not to mention the movies) pretty faithfully. But I think it's time is over.

I really enjoyed Babylon 5 and Farscape. There are plenty of stories still out there, but I think calling them "Star Trek" at this point is just overkill.

Humanity really isn't ready to live up to the potential of a Star Trek world. We love to squander our lives away while those who dream for a brigher and happier tomorrow find ourselves seeking out those wonderful memories of years gone by -- such is Star Trek.

Frankly, if I had a few million myself I'd turn the franchise loose and tighten up the nerdiness of it until it popped like a balloon so everyday people can appreciate the beauty of what humanity can become (though not a "perfect" Star Trek society). I always appreciated the notion that one day money will be supplanted by a person's personal desire to strive and better themselves as life's reward. I forget which episode/movie Picard mentioned this. First Contact, though, I believe. . . .among the many wonderfully summed up-in-a-nutshell ideals toward which humanity really should strive.

All this bickering and nonsense about this or that religion and people shuffling the deck about who has the oil riches of this little planet. Pure garbage I'd say.

So, that said, I think the nerdiness of it forced the franchise out of existence for the time being. If only there were enough creative people in Hollywood to produce something humanly meaningful and entertaining for once.

I'll stick to my own personal daydreams of tormorrow for now. Star Trek aside for the time.

Unfortunately, it would be best to give it a couple years before they try another TV show. Pretty much should pick up about where the Next Generation left off. It does give those of us who opted out of one or more variation to catch up. Most of Enterprise and the second half of DS 9 are the ones I would have to catch up on. We could/would/should have a Next Generation movie. I mean, what are they waiting for for crying out loud???
HOLD THE PRESSES!!! There is a movie in the works! Check the link below!!!
