GIFTS TO BRING INDIANS

The absolute best alcoholic beverage to bring as a gift to Indians is a good Scotch Whiskey...They can't get good Scotch or and good whiskey for that matter and most upper class Indians that drink like Scotch very much. Might want to ask a relative discreetly.
Other Gifts for Indians:

All children will ask for "school pens", just cheap Bic pins will be greatly appreciated, American chocolate; but be careful chocolate melts. Hershey kisses don't melt that easily and make great gifts for beggar children or any children for that matter.....(heck one year we bought closeout 90% off Holloween candy they loved it and the fancy packages..

For adults European chocolates are a big hit. Pick them up in duty free if you have a lay over in Europe, Chocolates with liqueur in them are never seen in India, Belgium chocolates, etc.

I brought a tele-zapper (defeats tele-markers) to a business friend who was going insane with tele-marketers and it actually worked in India. Now he wants 4 more...No better gift for a businessman, they can be had on eBay.
Women love watches that are unique..they can be cheap..Pendant watches will make you a friend for life.

And last but not least Indians will greatly appreciate any gift..If you go to Haridwar bring back a small pot (sealed) with Ganges water in it......Only for a Hindu though!...If you have a Shik friend and go to The Golden Temple bring holy water from the tank at the Temple.....If you see statues of say 'Ganish' at the shrine at home..pick up a nice image of Ganish.

Indian culture dictates that one not 'jump up and down when presented with a gift'....so don't think your gift is not appreciated. You will get a polite thank you from adults. It will be appreciated!

Perhaps your sincere and heart felt attitude and hand of genuine friendship could be the most alcohlic and long lasting effective thing for a true Indian. Materially we have everything available in India and enjoy them most.

It is your gesture which means the most. So take it easy.
