Discovery Bay is nice, good neighborhoods not allot of crime
Benicia is also excellent community of hard working people.
San Ramon or Dublin, Pleasanton is my favorite but you need good credit and good income to live there, you can leave your door open at night.

These places are all in northern california near Oakland, SF

As long as you look on the outsides of the main cities you should be okay.
Discovery bay is for newlyweds I think. Very nice new homes and buildings, just 4 years ago it was all field.

it mostly depends on how much you can spend. Typically anywhere

California is a very expensive place to live. If you want to buy a decent home, plan to spend about $700,000 respectfully. The weather is nice, but there is a lot of pollution. It also depends on what type of community you're looking for and what kind of environment you would like to raise your kids in. You need to be more specific as to what your needs are, and how you plan to earn a living.

If you're into hugging trees and nature, I suggest northern California. Around the Humboldt area.

If you're young and you want to be near the ocean, mountains, clubs and night life, I suggest central to south Orange County (from Irvine to Dana Point) in Southern California.

Whatever you do, I suggest you avoid central California.

If you need help or just curious about the housing prices in Orange County, you can search the MLS on my website for free. My company also does loans, so I can be your one stop shop in your move here. Plus you'll get cash back at closing to help pay for a new convertible (something you'll need while living here). ;)

Good luck to you and your marriage.

Hello There! I live in Santa Rosa,California... I pref fer Northern Cal because of it's tremendous values in the Wet her & that in Northern Cal we have alot of (Lakes,Rivers,& some of the best scenic veiws in Cal. There is Plenty of room to grow here in Santa Rosa even though it's been around for some long time now. There are alot of Jobs,Unions,Corporation/s, Parks W/Lakes,& some of the best Spory Fishing too. There are alot of things to do in Santa Rosa & it still is A nice Family Place to live as well. There are alot of nice Resturants & just about everything you can think of including some of Californias most scenic Beaches all of that & Wildlife too. The price for an Apartment/s are just as competitive as anywhere else. You can get a very nice Apt. for a two bedroom w/fireplace two baths a Garage for your vehicle & all for $900.00. a month & that is in a upper middle class area in town. Well I hopoe that when & wherevver you should decide to live in Cal thqat you might want to consider Santa Rosa a chance. Good luck in your hunt for your place in the Sun. rumeoui.

Well, if you belong to the middle class, then I would suggest places like: Corona, CA or Pomona, CA. Both cities sound good. There you can get a nice decent apartment.

Otherwise, I might try Burbank (if you like the showbusiness industry) or -if you are wealthy- 90210 (you know what I mean), Palos Verdes, Newport Beach, Hollywood Hills, or Malibu.

Depending on what part of CA but it you go to the LA area execpt to make at least 200,000 a year for a decent place to live and enjoy.

I lived out there in the 80's and you needed to make almost 100,000 for a decent place.

I loved being there but the cost of living is terrible.

I'm going to be honest with you. If you want to move to California, that's fine. But be very careful. There's a lot more crime there. Burglaries are more common that any where else (unless you're in New York or something), as well as rape and theft. Crime happens every where anymore, but I've noticed that it's more common there.

Not only that, but it's hard to find a job and your own place there. VERY hard. If you don't speak Spanish there, they will not hire you. My husband and I moved to Bakersfield and lived there for three years. We tried to find our own place, but no one would rent to us because we couldn't pass a credit check and a background check. I couldn't get a job because I didn't have any work experience in California, and I didn't speak Spanish. We were staying at my husband's parents' house, and we felt like we were stuck. The parents were nice to us, but my husband's siblings were not nice to us at all. They were always teasing us and harassing us, picking fights with us all the time. Not only that, but my mother in-law was stressed out, and that wasn't fair for her to go through all that stress in her own house. So we came back to my home town. I will not go back to California because of this. Don't give me wrong, I miss it. But we can't go back. Ever.

California is huge, but the Bay Area is great. It's close to everything (beach, mountains, skiing, wine country). The weather is very mild. Of course, it's also one of the most expensive areas in the country.
