This is not a Joke post

I have been eating their M&M candy for over 14 years. I really like the candy. I usually grab a bunch of them in my right hand and eat them.

Well I now have skin cancer and I was told by my doctor it was caused by the artificial colors in the candy.

DO I have recourse?

Sounds like you need a second opinion. If it was caused by the artificial colors, a lot more cases would show up and Mars Inc would have been out of business a long time ago.

If you're going to sue anybody, sue the Sun or your Sunblock.

Hahaha! You can try to sue them, but I doubt that you will win. In tortious lawsuits, you have to prove proximate cause, meaning that you have to be able to prove that the defendant actually caused the harm. This is your problem. First of all, you have to prove that your skin cancer is caused by artificial colors (and not sunshine, like most people). Second, you would have to prove that the cancer was caused by M&M candy and not any other foods that you have consumed with artificial coloring- unless you have exclusively eatten M&Ms in your lifetime, this would be impossible to prove. So, you can try, but you probably won't win.

You might find an attorney to do it but be prepared for a long drawn out period of litigation. Trying to proove that the skin cancer was caused by artificial colors in the candy may be difficult.

No.. I am pretty sure after the fat bastards that sued McDonalds you are not allowed to sue food companies. Cancer might be different? but still you are either BSing us or your Doctor is an idiot. So as far as M&M's go they no longer cause cancer for years now...

Red dye no. 2, a proven CARCINOGEN, was banned by use in food by the US Food & Drug Admin.

In 1975, production of all RED M&M's were stopped after tests showed CANCER in lab rats fed red dye number 2

the answer to your question seems obvious to me. you
made a choice to eat m&ms . you said you would grab a
bunch of them in your right hand a eat them . now you
have skin cancer from the artificial coloring in the candy. I think your legal action should be against you and your right hand.

Skin cancer is caused by the sun. ...or external chemical exposure. you would have to have proof that artificial colors cause skin cancer from ingesting them. and then you would have to add up the amount of artificial colors in the m and m s and prove that you ate them all.
Then they would try to prove that you have done other things that could have caused skin cancer. I don't think you have a chance. Don't waste your time going to court...just enjoy your life and use sun screen.

You can try to sue, but you will have a hard time actually proving it to the judge. Also, i'd like to say that is why i only eat the green m and m's, not the red ones cause they cause cancer big time!

I have been eating them for years and no skin cancer. There is a lot of things we eat that use the same colors so you can't say it was the m&ms

If your doctor really stated this, your problem will be proving that you ate M&M's for this many years on a continuing basis to be the proximate cause of your skin cancer.

Umm...I dunno. I guess you should talk to a 25 dollar lawyer at your local Bar Association and see what options you may have. Dude...how the hell is it possible that the m&m's food color soaked into your skin and gave you skin cancer? How are you going to prove that you didnt get the skin cancer from any of the other 1,000 ways you can get it? Are you sure this isnt a joke? :)
