You should know and love your girlfriend enough to be in tune with her primary likes, hobbies and interests.
Mine for example loves video games, musicals, computers, rings, etc.
So for me, its a no-brainer with my girl. I simply buy her what she needs, whatever's in her field of interests that she can't afford that I feel could bring her the most fun and happiness at the moment without being too ordinary or practical - practical presents (such as household appliances - the mistake my father made with my mother) = bad. I just bought mine a Nintendo DS Lite and several games to go with it and she's very happy.
Talk to her, learn more about her without making it too obvious that you're trying to figure out what to buy her. Good luck. Remember, finding out is half the fun.

Well how cheesy do you want get? How about a scrap book of some kind with photos of all your great times. Cheap and romantic, shows that you specifically thought of you two together and not just of her as a woman (as in she's a girl, girls like chocolate, so I'll just buy chocolate it's easiest) point I'm making is that you want it to be a gift that every time she looks at it, she thinks of you and her together, specifically. Something that is perhaps a little unusual if you gave it to anyone else they would think you were mad, but to her and only her it really does mean something. Find that gift and you will definitely get lucky tonight =P ;-)

Something that not only shows that you are thinking about her,
but that you actually listen to her. In some way, she has, more
than likely, given you some sort of hint of her favorite things.
Just Think Man!
Perhaps it is something she has said she would like to do.
Perhaps a favorite place to go.
Maybe her favorite flower.
Or Favorite Color and you could incorporate it into your gift.
It's there for you. You just have to pay attention.

maybe a nice dinner, and some flowers it really depends on her likes. maybe a card and some flowers maybe some chocolates and some flowers, maybe she would like to go somewhere and just be with you and some flowers man you have to zone in on what she likes does she wear jewelry. and it can be very personal or it can be more like a good friend how long have you been togather?

You should give her a box of dark chocolate. She'll love it. Every girl like's chocolate. You should add flowers too. Maybe red roses.

depends what type of girl she is. take her window shopping and watch what she picks out that she really likes and not buy it. roses are always a good idea.
