A woman shouldn't be afraid of ALL men, but she should do a lot of checking before she lets him into her home or her body. While most men are wonderful people, there are quite a few who are sociopaths with or without criminal records. The most dangerous sociopaths are the ones who have never been caught. A sociopath is a person who was born without a conscience. S/he will do or say WHATEVER is necessary to obtain a desired outcome. S/he will lie, cheat, steal and sometimes commit rape or murder without any guilt at all. There are warning signs you should be aware of:
1. He wants you all to himself. You are not permitted friends or family. He will hit you if you resist this edict, or he will do bad things to the people you love.
2. He will tell you he loves you on the first date. He will ask you to marry him on the second or third date, but won't have money to buy you a ring. He will, however, have money to rent a room for a "test drive".
3. He will lie to you. He will tell you he is an orphan, because he knows his mother will give you the facts about him if you ever meet her.
4. If you do marry him, he will take everything you ever valued and sell it or hock it. Then he will give you the pawn ticket so you can redeem it, so he can do it again. After the first experience, put all your other good jewelry in a safe deposit box at the bank. He will scream at you and accuse you of having an affair. He will beat you. He will do or say ANYTHING to get your goodies.
Not all men are sociopaths, but these are a few things you should know about the ones who are.
If he hits you, call the police, press charges and DO NOT take him back, regardless of what he says or does.

It depends on the man, character and his personalities tendencies. If he is verbally, physically, psychologically and emotionally abusive and violent, yes they should.
I would also say the same is true for men of women who are the same
