Not until you have given birth... prior to that the baby will inhabit space near the stomach, but will never lie on your stomach...

Do you mean to ask how far along you'll be when the baby starts pressing on your stomach (from the inside) due to its size??? That will be about 6-7 months, depending on your build.

Your body is built to allow the womb to push the organs further up into the upper part of the abdominal cavity as the baby grows, and in doing so, you will start to experience shortness of breath, because your baby & your organs will be pressing on your solar plexis (diaphragm - the muscle that helps you breath, located at the bottom of your chest cavity), making it difficult to draw a full breath.

The baby is going to grow from the size of a pea to the size of a lima bean to the size of a quarter to the size of an egg to the size of a lemon to a banana....until it is about the size of a large beanie baby. At that point you will feel the baby moving around and kicking. The baby is surrounded in fluid that keeps him or her afloat. She or he will never really "lay" on any part of you. They are in the fetal position and stretching and kicking all around. When you give birth, even though the baby has been living and moving inside of you, you'll feel even closer when the nurses hand your baby to you to lay on your chest or stomach.

as your pregnancy continues the uterus expands and the baby eventually will push your stomach up but the baby will never lay on your stomach.

I can relate to that nerve in spine comment and that is a HORRIBLE pain. Nonetheless, worth every tear shed over it.
