Practice with ankle weights. When you take them off, you'll be able to jump a lil higher because it will help tone your legs better. Don't worry about it too much though, you'll hit a growth spurt in a couple years and get taller anyway. It's never too early to practice and keep in shape though. Just don't go overboard with it.

I would work on improving your explosiveness first. One way to do that is to do this: jump up and down some steps on one foot, jumping from step to step, do that a couple times with each foot and a couple times with your feet together. You should do this a few times a week with rest days in between. You should also jog for a comfortable amount of time everyday( 10 minutes a day is good for your age). Doing what I told you will help with your jumping and also with your running. Good Luck

I highly recommend starting a plyometrics training regimen - consider using Jumpsoles http://www.jumpusa.com/
Plyometrics help strengthen your ankle and calf muscles; also helps increase your hops. If you cant get Jumpsoles or similar products, just do calf/toe raises for now. Since you're only 9 and a half, I would strongly suggest that you DO NOT lift weights or do squats yet. Avoid ankle weights too, as these things tend to stunt your growth. Ankle weights can also cause you to hurt your knee.

Jumping is a matter of timing - muscle timing. You should practice everyday. The better control you have over your muscles the better you will jump. Your body is still developing. Just practice every day ... no exceptions.

firstly i think you shouldnt be worrying about it at the moment but if you really want to improve your jumping there are jump programs that you can do, and skipping on the skippin' rope is a good way to help you improve.
