Generally speaking, don't put any man made chemicals into your body unless it is absolutely necessary, like if you were sick. Eat more vegetables, don't drink soda, and exercise, if only for 15 minutes. You'll lose the weight.

I'm a biology grad, and I’ve taken a class on drugs and behavior, so I can tell you pretty straight up, if it works and you didn't get it from your doctor it is pretty much bad news.

The problem is that all the herbal supplements you get have NOT been tested for safety by the government. They have no obligation to tell anyone about adverse reactions.

In fact a couple years ago there was a huge issue with Metabolife possibly covering up the fact that hundreds of previously healthy people developed dangerous/deadly heath conditions in the prime of their life as a result of using their product.

The problem is the diet industry has very deep pockets and that can fund a lot of special interest groups in Washington to keep the Supplement industry from being regulated.

Why do they want that? Because they are able to skip the long and expensive (safety ensuring) research and development phase of drug research required by the FDA. They are able to "discover" a chemical and bring it to market within months. Even if it has been banned in other countries. All they have to do is make the small disclaimer on the bottle that most people skip over "not intended to diagnose or cure any disease". Because everyone dreams of a quick fix with no consequences it is a very lucrative business.

Of coarse that is just counting products that contain active ingredients that might do what they claim. They usually contain a chemical from a natural source that is nearly identical to speed or amphetamines. Ephedra and Mua Huang are two ingredients to beware of. They can kill you. These products claim to be safe because they are "natural" remember poison ivy is "all natural" too. So is opium...it comes from opium poppies, but your not about to give it to the family.

The flip side is products that are absolute frauds. Again because they are not regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) we have no protection. They can have ANYTHING in the bottle. They "should" have what it says, but there isn't really any oversight.

I do want to say there are many trustworthy wonderful companies out there. I myself take a flaxseed oil, to get more Omega-3 oils in my diet which comes from Target's house brand, which was highly rated by "Consumer Reports".

But many companies are out to provide a good product...they are out to make a good profit. Be especially wary of imported products. There have been many cases of Asian imported herbs prescribed by traditional practitioners that had ingredients switched in them when the warehouse ran out. Even the traditionalist Healthcare practitioner was unaware; some patients have died because of this.

If you need to lose weight the best thing is to consult your physician. If they give you the "ok", your best bet is a reduced calorie diet combined with an increase in physical activity.

I myself have been doing Weight Watchers and aqua Aerobics, and have lost 18.6 pounds in the last 7 weeks. It is a much safer plan, and it is designed to last a lifetime.

I tried Hoodia and......
Hoodia has worked for me...and with no side effects.
Check with your doctor before starting any weight loss program.

For all you doubters, here is the prior feedback for another Answers user who followed my advice:

Asker's Rating: *****
very good comment i lost 2 lbs in a week
i think i can almost get in my leather dress, i can hit the town in no time

**** VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO GET RIPPED OFF ---

#1. Be sure you are buying pure Hoodia...look for the import certificate on the website. No matter the price, if they do not display this, you really do NOT know what you are getting!

#2. Be sure it is 100% Hoodia & not mixed w/other herbs, etc.!!

#3. Keep in mind it stops your hunger pangs…you MUST remember to break your habit to always eat at certain times.

#4. Drink a full 8oz. glass of water with it!

Hoodia (HOOD-ee-uh) gordonii - A genus of 10 to 20 species from southwestern Africa.
Hoodia gordonii is the stoneage wonder plant found throughout the dry arid regions of the South western African continent now on the verge of making history in the fight against obesity. It is a genus belonging to the Asclepiadaceae family which consists of approximately 20 species. Used to stop hunger, quench thirst, and provide energy among other things since prehistoric times, Hoodia gordonii was first discovered by the San tribesmen and women to get through the most difficult of times.
