I love to drive fast late at night when the roads are basically empty but all I have to drive is my parent's car. I want to my first car to be something sporty.....something with speed that I can feel in control of (Stick shift). I love all of the Fast and Furious movies and the Tokyo Drift movie didn't help my obsession any. The thing is.....I don't know how to drive a stick shift. I hear that those kind of cars are actually cheaper to purchase as well. Where can I find out how to drive a manual transmission and If possible can any one give me a detailed description of how to do so? Thanks alot...

It's not hard to learn but how about doing it on a track where you don't endanger innocent people at any hour?

I was a driving instructor for two years then I became a mechanic. there is alot of details in driving a stick shift..
1. you do not push any pedal to the left of right these people are crazy do not listen to them.
2. these new cars have a safety "clutch switch" so yopu must depress the clutch pedal to start the car. once the car is started you depends on where the gear stick is (ie. in a gear or neutral). You move off the car in 1st gear
3. To move off the car in first gear with the clutch pedal depressed move the gear stick over to the left (the gear pattern is usually on the shifter knob). then when you put it in first gear and your foot still on the cluch pedal gently feed it some gas while softly letting up off the clutch pedal you will feel the car start to move if you let up gently enough. but If you dont you are going to stall it.
4. Now for shifting when you move off and now driving you can change to the second gear by depressing the clutch pedal and pulling the shifter down into two simultaneously while still on the clutch when thge shifter is in two then you must let up off the clutch right away and this agani you cant let up off too hard
5.third and fourt are the same just look at the patter on the shifter knob

First, the way those cars look in the movies isn't how it really is. Oh, you'll see those kids running around in cars that have spoilers and exhaust that sounds like a weed eater but when they try to race against a real car they usually turn the other way. Try going to a local race track and get your speed fix there. It will be safer for you and everyone else on the road late at night. There is nothing worse for a parent than to get "the call" that there kid was killed in a wreck. Your not as skilled a driver as you think you are.

The best way to learn is to actually do it. Now the mechanics of it are simple you need to press the gas as you let the clutch out. kind of at the same time makes for a smoother ride. Now as you change gears you will let off the gas and depress the clutch and shift the stick into gear. then repeat let clutch out press gas. And yes they are cheaper. Suzuki cars are the best example of this. The automatic is exactly a thousand dollars more expensive than the manual. P.S. they are a lot of fun to drive especially sports cars!

ok when in neutral, push the clutch(pedal all the way to the left) put car in first gear, then slowly let go of the clutch while slowly pressing the accelerator (pedal all the way to the right) when the RPMs get to the point when you need to shift, press the clutch and shift into second gear, and once again let go of the clutch while pressing the gas pedal. repeat as necessary. to brake, simply press the brake and the clutch at the same time.

It's not hard, push in the clutch, put it in gear and let the clutch out easy while you give it a little gas...a few tries and you will get the hang of it...but be careful driving fast...don't wrap yourself around a telephone pole...that tends to hurt....A LOT!
