I haven't, must my best friend has. With her third pregnancy, she took 3 HPT's, all negative. She went to the doctor and she found out she was 12 weeks pregnant.

No, not personally, but I have heard of it happening in very rare cases.

I think perhaps the most common reason for this happening, is that the woman took the 3 Home Pregnancy Tests too early. Even though most HPT's claim to be able to detect if a woman is pregnancy as early as 5-7 days before a missed period, this is not the case for every woman. HPT's detect the pregnancy hormone hCG in a woman's urine, although as every woman is different, we all produce this hormone at a different rate. This means that many women have to wait until the day that their period is due, in order to test. Some women even have to wait for a few days after that.

Perhaps the woman has been taking the test incorrectly. HPT's are meant to be used with the woman's first morning urine, as this is when the concentration of hCG is at it's highest. If she did not follow the instructions correctly, perhaps she has an inaccurate result.

A blood test at the doctors can tell if a woman is pregnant as early as 6 days after conception. These blood tests are much more sensitive that home pregnancy tests, and are also quantitative, as well as being qualitative. They can tell you how much hCG is in the woman's blood, as well as whether or not a woman is pregnant. Normally, a non pregnant woman has under 5mg of hCG in her blood, however in an average and normal pregnancy, this level rises and doubles in a 48 hour period. Hence, the levels should be sufficient enough to calculate six days after conception.

Hope I could help!

I haven't, but a friend of mine who went through IVF to become pregnant never got a positive HPT. The only way she knew she was pregnant was by the doctor's blood test. They are much more accurate than HPTs.
