No matter what happens the rest of the year, The Tigers are the story of 2006 and Leyland is a BIG reason why.

Yeah he has definitely done something mentally to that team to change their play. There's no other AL manager that has done anything this incredible this season thusfar.

Although Jim Leyland has worked wonders so far....you have to wait until the end of the year before they hand out that award.

I am very excited about what they have done, and look forward to the 2nd half of the season.

The Detroit Tigers are playing as a team...they are selfless and every day it's a different player with the clutch hit.

I think Jim Leyland should win manager of The Year.

The Tigers basically have the same team as last year (only Rodgers was added via free agency)(Verlander & Zumaya were brought up from Toledo)...and look how much better they are.

Has to be the manager doing all that.

Even if they play .500 the rest of the season they would finish with 95 wins.

I still think The White Sox are the team to beat in the AL, and Tigers finish 2nd....

And NO, they wont "fall apart"....there is no way Jim Leyland will let that happen.

Before you Tiger fans ask the rest of the American League to phone in the rest of the season, remember that we are not even through half the season. Pitching can tire, bats can go silent. It might happen to the White Sox, the Twins and it can happen to the Tigers. The Red Sox led by 14 games at the Allstar break in 1978 but ended up tied with the Yankees on the last day of the season. Given the Tigers' record 2 or 3 years ago, Tiger fans have a lot to celebrate (imagine how Bonderman feels), but it ain't over yet and the White Sox are right there.

Look at the Tigers roster, look at the fact that Dmitir Young has been out most of the year, and you realize that the Tigers have NO business being as good as they are. That is the hallmark of a great manager: he can get more out of his players than could ever seem possible. Leyland did that in Pittsburgh, and he's doing it in Detroit. He also knows how to manage a clubhouse full of egos all the way to a world championship ('97 Marlins).

He's still got it, even after being away for so long. Yes he should be manager of the year.

No, the Tigers can choke because of something Leyland might do. You never know for sure, so you just gotta wait and see.

No because contrary to what you think if they suddenly collapase they won't be the GOOD story. They will be the story of how good they were and then how bad they became. Sure at the moment he really is the manager of the year, but let's wait until they get into the playoffs before guarnteeing him manager of the year.

I agree they are having a great season but the award isnt meant for heart warming stories. The award is meant for the best managing job. The season isnt over yet so its a little early. But if it were to end today it would obviously have to be him.

It's too early to say. If they collapse in the second half, like Baltimore did last year, he wouldn't deserve it. It would be a sad story then.

But if they do keep it up in the second half of the season, hell, yes, he would deserve that award., and a few others, besides.

As of now, no one could touch him for the award. However, we haven't reached the half way point in the season. We should wait until the end of the season as is usually done.

I hope this helps.

I agree that he will get it but it isn't for sure yet.It is for sure in my mind but not on paper. The Tigers could suddenly start doing horrible. This won't happen but it is still possible so they can't make it a certain thing.
