Get a deep-cleansing facial at your nearest beauty salon. Don't know where you live but where I'm at it costs about $60-$90 for a 1-hour facial. Getting a facial is a good start because it will get rid of dead skin cells, so your face will look 10x fresher immediately after a facial.

After the facial, I suggest using Epicuren on daily basis, it's a really, very good product. They have a few types of cleansers, check out their website http://www.epicuren.com/

For moisturizer, it's a good idea to use something with Retinol b/c retinol fights acne.

So, if you cleanse your face 2-3 a day and put fresh moisturizer (& sun block please) after everytime you wash your face, your pores will get smaller and smaller, and your face will appear very smooth. You also need to get facial on regular basis, at least once every 2 months... I know it can be pricey, and good face products are not cheap, but if you want to look good you need to take care of yourself.

BTW, I notice everyone here recommends Proactive. I don't have anything against it b/c I used it too a few years back and it did get rid of some acne. But I couldn't use it for long-term b/c it's too harsh for my skin, and after awhile, it doesn't work as good as it was in the beginning in fighting acne. So I switched to Epicuren, and now I use a combination of Epicuren products and Skin Therapy products- they work very well for me. Those products you find in the pharmacy store are OKAY (Neutrogena, St. Ives, Biore, etc. etc.) but there are far better products you can't find in the regular pharmacy or grocery stores- you can only find them specifically in beauty supply stores- but they cost more, but for good reasons & it's worth it.

Like you're other answers "Proactive" is very good, but a dermatologist would know if you have something that needs a prescription. Most importantly lengthy exposure to hot water or humidity in the shower opens you're pores and after washing with soap, rinse with hot and again with cold to close the pores.

I use a combination of a few things.

Go to Walmart and buy these items: Noxzema Salicylic acid face wash, Walmart Astringent (Orange), and Walmart Benzoyl Peroxide Face Cream, and a pack of cottom pads.

I usually dab the pads with the astringent and scrub hard, wash my face with the face wash, and then after gently drying by blotting a towel against my face put the Benzoyl Peroxide cream onver all my face.

This will help clear up your current acne but try to keep your face clean, especially after sweating and working out to prevent acne. Prevention is much easier than treatment.

Everybody has pores.

I used Biore strips for black heads and Clean N Clear creme for acne. First, you want to splash your face with hot water, that opens up the pores. Then use the strips and then the creme. Worked for me really well, I don't have any problems with my skin anymore.

Use it everyday or twice a day if you want. I always did it before bed.

Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser, Get it at Target or Ulta for less $. Best "drug store" type product. Gentle "micro-beads" but it has both alpha-hydroxy acid to exfoliate, and beta-hydroxy acid to get down into the pores and kill the acne. Don't be scared by the creamy texture, it means business.

Soap and water at least twice a day. With cutting down on sugary foods and drinks and some exercise will clear your face right up. A facial wash alone no matter how good it is won't do anything if you don't keep yourself somewhat healthy.

St. Ives Apricot scrub
the one in the BLUE-ish bottle
Twice a day.

AND Queen Helene facial masque
the one in the GREEN-ish bottle
2-3 times/week.

You can get both at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, or anywhere like that. You'll also know which version of each to get because both specifically say that they're for acne, blackheads, etc.

TRY THESE. THEY WILL WORK. TRUST ME!
