Matching = matching two or more documents that provide support for a transaction. For example, it could be a process of matching a purchase order, receiving report and vendor invoice prior to payment.

Batching = aggregating several sets of transaction documents together (that have already been matched), usually for input into, for example, the A/P system. It refers to processing transactions through the system in batches rather than transaction by transaction. Usually, it involves deriving 'batch totals' so that there is a balancing figure that can be used to verify that all transactions have been entered, and entered accurately.

Coding = refers to the assignment of numbers to the transaction. Usually general ledger account numbers, but it could be customer number, vendor number and so on.
