JK Rowling did not say that she wished the series to continue with another author. She merely commented on the fact that some authors kill off their main characters to avoid other authors taking over the series later on. I think JKR wants to be the only official author of the Harry Potter series.

Also two characters are dying in the last chapter who she didn't plan on dying in the first place. There could be many more deaths than just these two. However, I'm putting Snape and Voldemort up there, along with Hagrid and Prof. McGonagall

I don't think Harry will die. He's the hero of the series, and I think he will eventually triumph over Voldemort and survive.

As much as I don't like it, I think it is totally possible that J.K. Rowling might kill off Harry. If you remember the article, she said that there is a good side to killing off your main character. When she is dead and gone, no one will be able to come back and write Harry because he already died; it would be satisfactory to know that no one will come back and take over you masterpiece.

Here is a list of people besides Harry that I think might perish.

Ron: Besides being Harry's best mate, we haven't really seen him prove himself in times of danger and battle. He showed his strengths back in Book 1 when during the giant chess match during the hunt for the Philosopher's Stone. There is a theory that Ron will sacrifice himself for Harry in the final match against Voldemort.

Pettigrew: Do I have to explain it? Let's see... He betrayed the Potters, he helped Voldemort get his body back, and is an all-around bad guy. I think it's time to go, and that the life-debt that he has to Harry will be involved somehow.

Draco: I think that apart from being "bad", Draco is really a tragic character. His family are Death Eaters. He's got a lot to live up to. I got the kind of feeling that he was forced in the Book 6 to serve Voldemort. All the stress he underwent, the frustration, the anxiety... I mean, the poor boy was misguided. Remember that he is only about 17. People can make horrible mistakes when they are at that age. Unfortunately in Draco's case, it might cost him his life. He's in too deep.

Professor Trelawney: I think there is a possibility of her death in Book 7. She's always predicting how people will die, and seeing strange, dark omens everywhere. I think that is a kind of subtle foreshadowing. She sees death everywhere, why can't it be hers? I just wonder how this would play out, and how important it would be to the actual plot.

Percy: Hmm... Anyone sure which side he is really on?

Who will get a reprieve? I have an inkling that it is one of the Dursleys.... or Snape.

well given the fact that the person before me practically wrote a story. i'll try 2 make my answer short. but if it's long it really isn't my fault. coz everyone wants 2 know about everyone elses ideas, thoughts and oppinions on the matter of the 7th book.
these are the pairs of people i think might die. (hem, hem )-(umbridge)
harry+voldemort
vol...+snape
Minerva+snape
mr+mrs weasley
hermione+ron
ginny+ron
bellatrix lestrange+lucious malfoy? are wierd guesses.
like everyone else i think that both harry and vol... will die.
the only problem is that
unless more books are written about harry potter then JKR will face a dead end.
i think this because if harry dies then what will happen about the wizarding world now that voldemort is free.
and if vol... dies everyone will wanna know about harry's future.
like everyone else i think that snape might be deffinitely one of the 2 who die though.
as 4 a new author of the book thats not likely 2 happen but in the case that it does few people will want to read the books.
on the other hand knowing someone elses veiw about how they want the story 2 go on is quite an interesting thought and idea. though i dont agree vey highly about it.

i think that both Harry and Voldemort maybe die, cause there is a connection between them and i don't think that it would be right 4 someone else to take over the Harry Potter series, cause it wouldn't be the same and also as some people have rightly said that JK Rowling has announced that there will be 2 people who will die in this 7th book.

JK Rowling didn't say she wanted the series to carry on with another author. She said it would be strange if someone else continued the series. I think that there is a strong possibility that Harry Potter is killed off at the end, so that noone else can continue the series, which is not what JK wants.

I am hoping it's not Harry. I hope Valdemort will die once and for all, but since they are linked so closely, who knows. I also do not believe Dumbledore is dead. I am hoping it's Snape and Valdemort, but part of me thinks it may be Ron too. In other words, who knows!! All JK Rowling will say is that 2 main characters will die. I hate to see this series end.

Don't know why, but I have the feeling that Snape will die...after being forgiven by Harry or something because Snape *definitely* killed Dumbledore on Dumbledore's wishes. Voldemort should die...while Harry...it would rather pathetic for JK Rowling to write seven books...and yes, seven books (not an easy feat) for a character and just to have him killed off in the end. If Harry was meant to die, Rowling should have killed him off sooner...or not bother to have written seven books when she could have ended it in three books...or even possibly one.

Ron will die as this is so obvious from soo many hints such as mrs weaslys visions. He will attempt to sacrifice himself or something. Harry will also die. This is clear as Dumbledore himself said Voldemort intended to create a horcrux form harry's death. At the same time, he accidentally passed on a part of himself to harry. I wonder if it may have been part of his soul (sarcasm). This also explains the unknown horcrux. Nagini is not a horcrux. The Sorting hat is. So many warnings about not trusting anything if you cant see where it keeps its brain. Voldemort will die as he will kill Harry through Snape, as he will already be 'dead' but mysteriously wont have died. Harry will realise that he is the last horcrux and will allow Snape to kill him, killing Voldemort. This makes sense of the prophesy "None can live while the other survives". I think Neville will probably turn out to be the chosen one, and is marked by his traumatic past by Voldemort. He will then kill Voldemort by using some herbology old magis of some sort. I also believe it to be Dumbledore and not Snape who is evil, as Dumbledore is constantly referred to in the early books as having a twinke in his eye and stuff when Voldemort is successful in anything. He also resisted from attacking Voldemort at the ministry. Meanwhile, he has not died fully as the Avada Kedavra usually causes a flash, not a beam of green light. It also doesnt usually cause the victim to fly into the air as it did with dumbledore. Snape evidently didnt hate Dumbledore enough, as Estrange told us this would make the unforgivable curses fail. His emphasis on non verbal spells is relevant, as he clearly used one here to make a realistic scene.

By the way i have not read spoilers, articles or anything. This is simply what i believe appears to be obvious.

It would not seem right that a different author would take over the Harry Potter. Harry Potter has been grown, nurtured and eventually will be killed by J K Rowling.

I think it will be harry and Ron/Hermione. They are the most prominent characters in the book. If she kills off 2 of the 3 than there would be no reason for people to demand any more of Harry Potter. If Harry doesn't die, readers would be extremely angry that she isn't writing anymore
