Eventually, your belly and baby are probably going to get in the way of lifting much of anything. Be careful and don't stress yourself and the baby.

"Physically strenuous work: Work that involves heavy lifting, physical exertion, long hours, rotating shifts, or contiuous standing may somewhat increase a woman's risk for preterm delivery. If you have such a job, you should, by 20 to 28 weeks, request a transfer to a less strenuous position until after delivery and postpartum recovery"

"Many women successfully mix business wth baby-making right through the ninth month, without compromising the well-being of either occupation.

Still, some jobs are obviously safer and better suited to pregnant woman than other jobs. And chances are the decision of whether or not you'll continue to work until delivery will at least something to do with the kind of work you're involved in. If you have a desk job, you can probaby plan to go straight from the office to the birthing room without any threat to you or your baby. A sedentary job that isn't particularly stressful may actually be less of a strain on you both than staying at home with a vacuum cleaner and mop, trying to tidy up the nest for your new arrival. And doing a small amount of walking - up to an hour or two daily, on the job or off - is not only harmless but may be beneficial (assuming you aren't carrying heavy loads as you go). Jobs that are strenous, very stressful, and/or involve a great deal of standing, however, may be another matter - and are a matter of some controversy.

One study of pregnant doctors in arduous residency training programs found that although these women were on their feet sixty-five hours a week, they didn't seem to have ay more pregnancy complication than women who worked mant fewer and usually less stressful hours. Other studies, however, suggest that steady strenuous or stressful activity or long hours of standing after the 28th week - particularly if the expectant mother also has other children to care for at home - may increase the risk of certain complications, including premature labour, high blood pressure in the mother, and low birthweight in the baby.

Confused? Not sure how the studies affect you? Ask your practitioner for some help making the decison that's right for your situation. If your pregnancy has been uncomplicated (and your job's not too stressful or strenuous), you'll probably be given the go - ahea dto work until 34 to 37 weeks. If your pregnancy has been complicated and/or if your job's a tough one, yuou may need to stop much sooner - or to cut down on your hours. Keep in mind too, that no matter how long you keep working, there are ways of reducing physical on-the-job stress during pregnancy"

I worked as a CNA for the entire term of my pregnancy, lifting other people and things. I have a healthy baby girl, and had no issues during my pregnancy.

Your doctor will tell you to do what you are used to, but watch the stuff you lift.

Of course, I play very competitive volleyball, and was diving around on gym floors for the first five months of my pregnancy, too. It is all going to depend on what your body is accustomed to.

Be careful. . .

I worked in a nursing home the whole nine months I was pregnant, lifting on people. As long as your body is used to it, and it doesn't cause any discomfort or bleeding, i'd say it's just fine.

If your body is used to it and you have no discomfort then you should be fine. Just be careful and if you are really concerned ask your doctor. I had to quit my job due to heavy lifting.

from here on out, don't lift anything heavier than 20 lbs!!! you may feel comfortable lifting something heavier, but if something happens, god forbid) you will always wonder if lifting something heavy had something to do with it.

You need to listen to your body and don't push yourself too hard. Remember to lift things correctly. When in doubt... Don't.
