I was in a bad car accident in 12-2004.I had many breaks-too many to list.Anyhow, I now have to have a full hip replacement.I have a new orthopedic who dosent want me to take pain meds(which I have been on and still am) and acts like we have all the time in the world to do the surgery.I am in constant pain, due to the fracture which is still there and the bones are growing the wrong way.How can he expect me to not take meds and be in pain? Then I have had to see him and another dr in his practice. One says its goung to be better and put me on more pain meds. The other says it might not get better and dont wnat me to take meds. What do I do?I would appreciate any help. But especially if you have had any kind of hip replacement or if you have a medical background.Thanks.P.S.I tried to put this in health q but noone anawered.

FInd another doctor, maybe one from another area. Take your records with you. Get another opinion, one NOT from a guy in the same practice, as they usually back each other up. I've been in medicine for 28 years and I see this everyday. Don't worry about hurting their feelings, second opinions are required by many insurance companies anyway. Take your xrays, tests and whatever you can to a completely new area, see a new doctor. There is an addage in medicine, It's minor if it's on someone else, it's major on YOU. See someone else, get and independant opinion and good luck.

A good friend of mine was also in an accident that fractured his hip. First they put the pieces back together to see if it would hold, but he had to have a hip replacement 6 months later. If you are in that much pain, you should seriously consider getting the hip replacement ASAP! There have been many advancements since my friend had his replaced in 1994. You don't want to live the rest of your life on pain meds. I would go to another practice to get a third opinion. Research & ask lots of questions to find an excellent doctor. In Maryland, Union Memorial Hospital is tops in orthoepedics.

I say , even if you travel to another town or city, get another opinion---I've worked in many hospitals and clinics and hate when people should be more questioning of their doctor and don't! It's your body and you know more about it then they do!!
Good Luck!

not a dr. and never had hip breakage. i think pain must be managed. the dr. hasn't got a clue how much it hurts, we all have different threshholds. i think you should consult another physician.
