the first 4 things are "emoticons"

=p or :p: someone sticking their tongue out
=xd or :xd (I think this is yelling)
=x (shut up?)
=a or :a mmm, tasty!

(you're supposed to look at them sideways--they sort of vaguely look like facial expressions). To see other ones, google the word "emoticon".

lol is an abbreviation for "laughing out loud" -- you might also see "lolrotf", which means "laughing out loud rolling on the floor". You might also see wtf and brb: the second one is "be right back"; the first one is "what the ...." (I think you know the rest).

they are faces. =p a face with tongue sticking out, =x mouth shut, lol Lots Of Laughs, brb Be Right Back, rofl Rolling On Floor Laughing, and so on. Some people get creative and make up their own as well and it can get confusing. The best thing to do is to go and either buy a IM guide or find one on the net that you can print out.

=p =i'm not sure exactly what that means, but if you look at it at an angle, it looks like a face with a tongue sticking out.

The first ones are emoticons. =P is someone sticking their tongue out at you, =x is someone keeping their mouth shut/barfing/etc. =d is someone licking their lips, =@ is someone being obsene, and lol means laughing out loud.
